GOAL
  • Overcome Discouragement

Discouragement is the main reason people give up on their goals.

If you feel yourself becoming discouraged, chances are you are telling yourself certain things like "This is too hard" or "Nothings going right". When you're discouraged things seem bleak and it's hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

But discouragement is a mood and it's just temporary. Your goal is a journey like any other road trip. Under ideal circumstances, you know how long the trip will take. But you also know from experience any number of things can happen: an accident, construction work, flat tire. If any of these happens along the way, you're not going to turn around and go home. No, you're going to repair the tire, find an alternate route and continue on until you reach your destination.

If you're telling yourself things like "this is too hard" or "I knew I couldn't do it" that's discouragement talking. The best remedy for that is to tell yourself something that's going to give you energy to keep moving forward, like "I have everything I need to be successful." That's going to help you carry through when you feel like quitting. And by the way, almost every success story has elements of discouragement.
